What is RoofTakeoff?
An iPhone app for roofing contractors in the US. Measure a roof on satellite, from a few dimensions or plane by plane, get the full material list with your own prices, and send a branded PDF estimate your customer can sign.
How do I measure a roof without climbing it?
Two ways. Tap Build from dimensions, pick the roof type (gable, hip, Dutch hip, gambrel, mansard, shed or flat) and the house shape (rectangle, L, T, U or cross), then enter length, width, pitch and overhang. Or tap Measure on satellite, search the address and outline the roof on Apple Maps imagery.
How does satellite measuring work?
Open an estimate and tap Measure on satellite. Search the address, tap the four corners of the house and choose Hip or Gable, or outline each plane, then set the pitch. Ridges, hips, valleys, rakes and eaves are counted for you. It needs an internet connection.
Can I see the roof in 3D?
Yes. Any roof built from dimensions can be checked as a 2D plan with every edge length, or turned and zoomed as a 3D model before you climb.
How do I measure a hip roof by hand?
Tap Build from dimensions and choose Hip: the length, width and pitch give every plane and edge. Or add the two long sides as trapezoids (bottom = eave length, top = ridge length) and the two ends as triangles (base = eave length). Each side has a role, such as eave, hip or ridge, so edge lengths are added up for you.
What materials does it calculate?
Shingle bundles, starter strip, hip and ridge cap, synthetic underlayment, ice and water shield at eaves and valleys, drip edge, coil nails, ridge vent, step and headwall flashing, pipe boots, box and turbine vents, chimney and skylight flashing, decking sheets and low-slope membrane.
How is waste handled?
Waste is added to shingles only, the way estimators and insurance software do it. When you build from dimensions RoofTakeoff suggests it by roof shape: about 10% for a gable, 15% for a hip, 20% for a cut-up roof. You can change it on any estimate.
Does it follow manufacturer and code rules?
The defaults follow GAF and Owens Corning installation instructions and the IRC: starter at eaves and rakes, cap on hips and ridges, two rows of ice and water at the eaves, double underlayment from 2/12 to 4/12 and membrane below 2/12. Every coverage value is editable in Settings to match the products you buy.
Can I add flashing, vents and decking?
Yes. Mark a side as a wall to count step or headwall flashing, and count pipe boots, vents, chimneys, skylights and decking sheets under Roof details. Each is priced from your price book.
Where do material prices come from?
From your own price book in Settings. Enter what your supplier charges once and every estimate uses it. You can still adjust any line, or add extras like gutters, on a single estimate. Markup, sales tax, overhead and profit, permit and disposal are built in.
Can I track which estimates I won?
Yes. Every estimate is a Draft, Sent, Won or Lost. The home screen shows what you won this month, open bids and your win rate, and lists estimates sent 3 or more days ago so you remember to follow up.
Can I put my own logo on the PDF?
Yes, with RoofTakeoff Pro. Add your logo once in Settings and it tops every estimate, above your company name, license and contact details. A PNG with a transparent background looks best.
How many estimates are free?
The free plan includes 3 new estimates every month. RoofTakeoff Pro gives you unlimited estimates and your own logo on every PDF. Every measuring tool is free.
How do I cancel or restore my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed by Apple: open Settings on your iPhone, tap your name, then Subscriptions. On a new iPhone, open RoofTakeoff, go to Settings and tap Restore Purchases.
Is my customer data uploaded anywhere?
No. Your estimates and customers stay on your iPhone. The only exception is satellite measuring: the address you search is sent to Apple Maps to find the property. Read the Privacy Policy for details.
Can I rely on the measurements?
Treat them as a fast, careful estimate, not a final survey. Satellite imagery can be a few years old, trees can hide parts of a roof, and a tape measure can slip. Check the roof diagram and inspect the roof on site before ordering materials. See the Terms of Use.
Something looks wrong in my estimate
Check the yellow warnings on the measurements screen first. If the numbers still look off, email us the estimate PDF and we will look at it.
